This design was originally created somewhere between 1911 and 1913 (not sure of specific date) and initially used as a perfumebottle for Produits Brahma by René Duval (former salesmanager with perfumer François Coty and later founder of Parfums Volnay with his wife Germaine-Henriette Nicolle). Due to the First World War, the design, as a vase without a stopper, was not implemented or executed until 1920. The exterior of the vase has a frosted surface (by means of sand blasting) and is stained with a patina that is somewhere between blue and gray. The pattern is a depiction of two chattering sparrows which is a literal translation of Deux Moineaux Bavardant. Initially this design had a glass cap, which was later abandoned following the bankruptcy of Robert Duval's Produits Brahma in 1915. At the production in 1920 Lalique presented the design as a vase instead of a perfume bottle. The vase called Deux Moineaux Dormant (sleeping sparrows) was the original contender of this bottle also known as Eau de Cologne aux Fruits, which factually is an asynchronous name given the design's appearance.
