The eucalyptus originates in Australia. For the Aborigines the eucalyptus is a sacred tree. For them it represents the subdivision into underworld, earth and heaven. On a spiritual level the eucalyptus has a purifying effect. Negative energies disappear when you burn a eucalyptus leaf. Because the tree does not lose its azure-blue leaves in winter, it symbolises constancy and flexibility.
Opalescent glass is composed of sillicates and metal oxides. In addition to these metal oxides, Lalique also added gold oxide (Au3O). This creates the amber glow in the glass when you hold it up to the light, or the opalescent effect. The opalescent colour is a reference to the gemstone opal. The opal is in a certain sense a strange duck in the bite within the spectrum of gemstones because it has a sillicate structure like glass and not a crystal lattice like other gemstones. Yet the opal is generally considered a gemstone.
